Postures in sophrology

Sitting, standing or lying down.



LYING DOWN POSITION:


This position should be comfortable, ideally flat with a small blanket. 

Legs comfortably apart, feet falling outwards. 

It is possible to slip a small cushion or a rolled blanket under the knees. 

The position should be comfortable.


SEATED POSITION:


The seated position allows you to obtain an ideal sophro-liminal level; between wakefulness and sleep. The upper body is leaning on the back of the chair, the hands are on the thighs, the head is straight and balanced, as comfortable as possible. 

It is a comfort practice that can be reproduced in different places such as work, a waiting room, etc. The neck is in line with the spine, the chin slightly tucked in.

The hands are placed on the thighs. 

The legs are bent at right angles and the feet anchored to the ground, rooted.

Variation: Bend your knees more, slide your feet under the chair and join your hands between your thighs to form an "O", this position is called; "the cab driver".

2nd variation: The "Isocay posture" (Caycedian Sophrological Integration).

 This position has been studied and tested as the seated posture that best activates the "liveliness " of the sessions.

It is practiced sitting, advanced on the middle part of the chair, the back straight not supported, the shoulders slightly back, the trunk slightly inclined forward, trying to move the center of gravity from the thorax to the lower abdomen in order to free the upper half of the body from the force of Earth's gravity. 

The hands are placed on the thighs, the legs at 90 °, the feet anchored to the ground. 

The fingers are extended and always in contact with the thigh. 

The Isocay posture is the posture specific to sophrology, because it allows to activate the consciousness for a better execution of the exercises. 

It avoids stimulating the consciousness too strongly or falling into sleep or a hypnotic trance state.


STANDING POSITION:


Position often used at the beginning of the session.

 It allows to make a good break between your daily life and the moment that you are about to spend yourself. 

This position is also very interesting to reinforce autonomy because it will be possible to relax in a few minutes, standing, while queuing at the checkout for example.

Spread your feet the width of your pelvis, the latter is tilted forward. 

The knees are relaxed slightly bent so that our joints do not support the weight of our body alone. 

The back is straight, the vertebrae are stacked on top of each other with the head placed delicately on the top. 

The chin pointing towards the chest. 

The arms and especially the shoulders surrender to gravity. To know if the position is good, you must have the feeling that you can hold it indefinitely.  


Definition: "Vivance


" Added to "life" or "to live", the suffix "ance" indicates the result of an action. 

This action is the attention paid to the phenomena that emerge from our consciousness (intentionality). 

Vivance is a notion present in our mind during any sophrology session. 

It is therefore a "dynamic word", centered on what lives. 

Vivance is feeling your body, your emotions and everything that passes through it.
